Egyptian MMA Athlete Dina Osman is Always Fighting for Something

"You're not just playing. You're getting cut, hit, giving up parts of yourself. But you keep going."

Omar Sherif

MMA extends beyond the boundaries of the cage for Dina Osman and serves as a metaphor for life. You're always fighting for something.

"You're not just playing. You're getting cut, hit, giving up parts of yourself," Osman tells SceneSports at her New Cairo gym. "But you keep going."

Already an anomaly as a female fighter from Egypt, Osman prides herself on the persona she built within combat sports. Her nickname, The Black Cat, acts a shield for the comments and image society has created about her.

"I’ve always felt like I wasn’t created to just fit in. Even growing up, I was around girls who were very different from me," she says. "I never felt like I belonged."

SceneSports sat down with Osman, Egypt's top ranked pound for pound female mixed martial artist, to talk about her career, her approach to fighting, her ambitions and what comes next.
