FIFA has chosen an all-Egyptian refereeing team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, for the first time in the history of the Egyptian Football Association.
The team consists of Amin Omar as a main referee, Mahmoud Abouelregal and Ahmed Hossam Taha as assistant referees, and Mahmoud Ashour as the video assistant referee (VAT). The decision marks a huge step in the representation of Egyptian football officials on the global stage. Running from June 11 to July 19, the 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and features 48 national teams.
