Egyptian Tennis Star Mayar Sherif Wins lași Open Title in Romania
The Iași Open title sends Mayar Sherif back into the world's top 75 at No. 73.
Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif claimed the 2026 Iași Open title in Romania on July 20th, securing the second WTA Tour singles title of her career and her first at the tournament.
Sherif defeated former World No. 2 Paula Badosa in the final, taking the opening set 6-4 before surging to a 4-0 lead in the second. Badosa was then forced to retire through injury, bringing the match to an early close. After resuming following a rain delay, the pair traded early service breaks before Sherif seized control to claim the first set and carried that momentum into the second. The final lasted one hour and 12 minutes.
The victory marks Sherif's second WTA Tour title, following her breakthrough triumph at the Parma Ladies Open in 2022, and extends her winning streak to 15 consecutive matches, further cementing her reputation as one of the tour's strongest clay-court players.
The title also sees Sherif climb 24 places to World No. 73 in the latest WTA rankings, while Badosa rises 22 spots to No. 93.
