Hervé Renard Appointed Tunisia Coach for Remainder of World Cup

The Frenchman replaces Sabri Lamouchi after Tunisia's opening defeat.

Tunisia have hit the reset button after just one World Cup match. Following a disappointing 5-0 defeat to Belgium in a pre-tournament friendly and a 5-1 loss to Sweden in their Group F opener at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Tunisian Football Federation has sacked Sabri Lamouchi and turned to tournament specialist Hervé Renard for the remainder of the World Cup. He has been appointed until the end of the tournament, with discussions over a longer-term deal expected to follow. Renard is no stranger to international football, having coached Zambia, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and France's women's national team. Few coaches have built a reputation for upsetting the odds quite like the Frenchman, from leading Zambia to an unforgettable AFCON title in 2012 to Saudi Arabia's stunning 2-1 victory over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, the only defeat suffered by the eventual champions. He now inherits a side already under pressure. With decisive clashes against Japan and the Netherlands still to come, Tunisia are gambling that this change can revive their World Cup campaign.
